Observed on Monday, May 27th, 2024, Memorial Day is a federal holiday honoring the brave men and women who have lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Originally known as Decoration Day, the holiday was established in 1868 to commemorate the fallen of the Civil War.

A History of Remembrance

Initially observed on May 30th regardless of the day of the week, Memorial Day was later standardized to the last Monday in May by the Uniform Holidays Bill of 1968. This change was made to create long weekends for federal holidays. Today, Memorial Day is a solemn occasion where we pause to remember and honor the sacrifices of our military personnel. It is a time to reflect on the true meaning of freedom and to express our deepest gratitude to those who have given their lives in service to our country.
